UNITY AGAINST THE ODDS.

The Westgate Mall Terrorist attack has just brought unity of all Kenyans to the limelight. The notion of disunity in the state due to political never played an integral part as both the leaders from the different political divide, came up to pledge their support against the attacks of terrorism and unlawful acts. Led by President Kenyatta, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Former Deputy Prime Minister, the three led Kenyans in preaching peace and support for the victims.

Political divide, were put aside as all Kenyans, took it as a responsibility to be there brothers keeper and to assist those who were inside the west gate mall. The Kenya Defence Forces , the Media and the Kenya Red Cross, werev not left behind as they all swung into action to assista the victims.

Cabinet secretary for internal affairs, Mr Ole Lenku despite giving contracting updates, stated that the Kenyans had to be calm and wait for the forensic  reports.

African states also sent their condolences to the families of the 62 kenyans who lost their loved ones in the attack and a quick recovery message to the over 150 people who got injured. However even as the flags in the country fly at half mast, some 61 bodies are still missing and yet to be recovered. The building that collapsed due to the exchange of the fire arms and grenades, is assumed to be holding the bodies of some Kenyans as well as those of the terrorists.

ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has however said that she will ensure the organizers of the attack are brought to  book.

Siaya County gets back to the ballot box.

 Governor Cornel Rasanga loses his seat

The Siaya county Governor, Hon Cornel Rasanga has lost his seat in a court petition.Hon.  Rasanga however gets down into the history books as the first Siaya County Governor and the first Governor to loose his seat in a court petition.

High Court Judge Justice Aggrey Muchelule, nullified the March 4 election results for Siaya gubernatorial seat stating that it was characterized by massive irregularities and therefore Rasanga was not validly elected. He therefore gave a ruling and directed for a by-election.

  

In his ruling, Muchelule said the petitioner, William Oduol of the National Alliance Party of Kenya’s candidate had  convinced the court that the election was not free and fair. The court directed Hon Rasanga and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to meet the costs of the suit amounting to Sh3million, and which should be divided equally among them.

The court relied in the recount of votes in Gem, Bondo and Rarieda constituencies, and Nyasanda and Awelo Primary schools in making its verdict. He said the ballot boxes were tampered with before the recount was ordered and that the IEBC that was mandated to safeguard the votes having been the custodians, did not do so. He also noted that seals were missing or replaced from the ballot boxes,

 

 Oduol however said the court ruling was in the interest of Siaya people, and that it was now a proof that the era of impunity and dictatorship is long gone.

Will Kenya opt for a constitutional Referendum?

With just a few months down the line after the March 4th General Election, there seems to be cat calls here and there and that could probably see the nation get back to the poling station and in yet another political mood for the next about 100 days or so.

Leaders from both the Opposition and Government have been seen engage publicly in a hotly contested debate about a proposed referendum in the offing. but probably, this could take quite some time and Kenyans have started fearing that more time devoted for national building could be lost as it could yet be another long period for campaighns  and politics.

Notably enough,the call for the referendum has once again renewed the rivalry between the two most popular coalitions in Kenya. the CORD Coalition led by their principal Raila Odinga who have endorsed a referendum and even started organising campaign crusades in support of it. Meanwhile, the ruling coalition led by President Uhuru has opposed this and probably shown publicly that there is a rivalry between the two coalition.

The former Premier has rooted for a parliamentary system and wants a referendum conducted so as to alter the New Constitution that was enacted in 2010, a move that has been opposed by their rivals. Raila has said that this will be a referendum held to save devolution whereas William Ruto says that those rooting for the referendum have some selfish agenda.

The guy who was kicked out of office last year,following his citation as a police imposter, Joshua Waiganjo, is yet to release a bombshell in a few days to come. The man accused to be masquerading as a senior police officer,now says he has already written a 31,162 word manuscript that he is going to reveal several things that hasn't come to the limelight up to date since there happenings. He however acknowledges that he is going to surprise many by his writing.

The manuscript  that is probably going to be the highest selling book this year., is going to reveal several anti-ethical things including key police officers involved and the what and who was behind the Baragoi Massacre in which 42 Kenyan police officers lost their lives in an ambush.

The ‘fake cop’ who says that he has been called by several politicians and even promised a lot of goodies including money and asylum, now says it is time for the country to know everything and all that has been taking place.He says that he has been promised an asylum in England but during the interview, he purports not to give the name of the politician but probably have the citizens read it by themselves.

 

Waiganjo who says he was silenced for long, now says he want to speak through the manuscript and in his book, chapter 10 , titled Infiltration to KPR service, he gives a vivid account of how he was allegedly conscripted as a police reservist in 2000.

The ‘Fake cop’ who had said he wanted to meet the former PM but hasn’t managed to date now again says that he is ready to meet the former PM and he is eagerly waiting for that appointment.

Even after walking out of the corridors of power, the former premier who enjoys support countrywide seems to retain his political strength and zeal and has not yet relinquished his political quest. The much sought after politician in Kenya today, seems to be gaining ground for the future days.

But probably after losing the March 4^th Elections in a disputed election to his counterpart Hon Uhuru Kenyatta that saw him file a case at the Supreme court, the CORD Principal has had several roadblocks from the state and from state agents.

The question as to why the former premier should retain state cars and at the same time be offered a VIP reception and state bodyguards has sparked the question as to why the former Premier Hon Raila Amollo Odinga haunts the UhuRuto duo Government.

Probably we have seen the Cord Principal and his deputy Hon Kalonzo make several business trips to the West and mobilize multibillion projects for their counties. The recent move by the Ugandan President Hon Museveni urging President Uhuru to treat Raila with dignity is pointer to the fact that the former premier could be haunting the Government.

Earlier calls by the State House to have Raila resign from politics and pick a task to be issued to him is also a keen pointer that the Government is not comfortable with the moves of the former prime minister.

The UhuRuto duo has also been seen to be keen on those who surround the Cord Principal. We have seen them summon Eliud Owallo who was a chief campaign manager of Raila in a bid to frustrate the Cord Principal. Probably, the only option the government has is to come into terms with the fact that the cord principal is very influential and agree to work with him so as to have a better nation.

president Uhuru made a courtesy visit to Former President Daniel Moi at his Kabarak home. the two discussed several issues among them probably being devolution matters and how to handle the teachers who are currently on strike.

jubilee first 100 days in office

Kenya marked 100 days on 28^th June2013 since the Jubilee Government took office and yet the 100-day promises have not been realised. The free laptop promise and job employments for the youth have so far not been realised however the UhuRuto Government has fared on to implement the free maternity healthcare for the women.

The government in its first days has however managed to appoint cabinet secretaries and their assistants in accordance to the constitution and all have gone through the vetting process as required. However, the permanent secretaries have also been appointed based on their experience and this is quite a good move for the new government. It is however important to note that some of the Kenyatta’s appointees never applied for the positions but managed to get appointed by the two leaders, Uhuru and Ruto.

However the Government has had some setbacks as the elected members of parliament demanded for a salary increase immediatelt they took office and even voted unimously for the bill that could grant them a salary hike, a move that i believe will be the order of the day of the other cicil servants. Currently, the teachers have followed suit and are on strike that their leaders term as ,’the mother of all strikes.’ The teachers are demanding for a salary and allowance increase and the other civil servants are threatening to do so.

It is however sad to notice that the TJRC Report by Bethwell Kiplagat has been tempered with because it cointains some senior state officials names. This move by the State house to edit the report, is just but a sighn that the report may not be implemented at all.

The government leaders have however taken  a quater of these 100 days, transversing the continent seeking for sympathy from the African leaders instead of working towards implementing their manifesto.They have managed to convince the African Union to side with them cocerning the cases being brought to East Africa for trials or even withdrawing the country from the Rome Statute, a move that has been rejected by most leaders.
