Maina Njega delays Wife burial for Cord rally

Former Mungiki leader Maina Njega has postponed the burial of his wife and nephew so as to attend the Cord political rally in Tononoka grounds next Sunday. Hon Maina Njega will be accompanying the Former Prime Minister and Cord leader Raila Odinga to Mombasa next week.

The burial of Mellisa Wairimu Nyambere and Njega's nephew and driver, Dickson Mwangi Wanjiru, will be pushed from next Saturday June 21.

Rt. Hon Raila jets back

The Former Premier Hon Raila Odinga arrived to a rousing home welcome at Uhuru Park stadium from his supporters who were ready to usher him back home from his two months long stay away in the United States.The welcome rally by the coalition, has unveiled a series of programmes of rallies that will take place in several counties.

Millions of people thronged the Uhuru Park stadium to welcome back home the Former Premier and Cord Principal Raila Odinga. The jubilant crowd, never disappointed as they all marched to the stadium cheerfully and without much fear of insecurity. 

Nothing was taken to chance as the National security also ensured everything was okay and that the rally was peaceful. The Government, deployed several security men in the town and even at the town outskirts to ensure that there was no any form of fracas that would take shape. 

Former Vice President and Wiper Leader Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka has given the Jubilee Government a 60 day ultimatum to call the Opposition for a dialogue to discuss the way forward in dealing with the Insecurity challenges and the rising cost of living.

The Former Premier, Hon. Raila reiterated Kalonzos' remarks and stated that the Jubilee Government should sit down and think of what is to be discussed in the next 60 days. The Cord leaders stated that they were not happy with the administration of Uhuru Kenyatta and the way the coalition is handling the insecurity issues.

Ford Kenya leader and Bungoma Senator, Hon. Moses Wetangula and the fellow cord leaders demanded for the dismandment of the IEBC since the people had lost trust in the credibility of the Hassan led commission.

 

Former Premier set to jet in the country

The Former Prime Minister and Cord Leader, Hon Raila Odinga is set to jet into the country tomorrow after a two month long visit in the United States.

Ahead of his coming, the CORD Coalition has organized rallies and a welcome back party tomorrow, Saturday 31st May. with preparations in top gear, the coalition hopes to match to the airport to welcome back the father of Modern Democracy and the Flame of Freedom.

The opposition are however claiming that the Government is against their plans and have tried by all means to stop their welcome back rally. Speaking at the ODM Offices, Hon Orengo, a close ally of the Prime Minister, stated that they arent going to be cowed and that everythinmg is set in place. Cord Principals, Hon Moses Wetangula and Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, will lead the millions of people to the airport to receive Rt, Hon Raila Odinga.

The message that wasn't well welcomed by the police has received mixed reactions forcing the Inspector General, Mr. Kimaiyo to cancel the earlier orders of  the police to have all rallies cancelled. The coming back of the Premier, could be a force to reckon with as the Ruling Coalition already have some cold chills running down their spine.

however, the President acknowledged the fact that there is freedom of speech and that the Opposition coalition should be allowed to hold their rallies and even to critic the Government. Hon Muthama and Hon Evans Kidero have also stated that the rallies have to go ahead despite the Governments' call to outcall the rallies.  

With the high rate of insecurity and earlier information's on the Former Premiers' assassination, nothing is being taken to chance. the Uhuru Park will have its security beeped up as well as the Airport and the Jogoo road that Hon. Raila is to use to the Rally. The Premier is also having been seen to have beeped up his security  as he was spotted with a serious arm of the FBI intelligence security while in USA and while in Dubai where he is on a three day visit.

The President visited Eldoret town on Wednesday and treatd the residents and hawkers to a rare show of his motorcade and chase cars. Uhuru who made several stopovers at the town, spoke to the multitude of hawkers who had welcomed him in the town.

suprisingly enough, Deputy President, Hon Ruto was missing in action and was said to be chairing a meeting in Nairobi. The Deputy Prwsident who hails from the town has over the days been criticized by the area residents to be working for the Jubilee coalition fo his own selfish gains.

But even as the President promised to return with Ruto. we are yet to see if that will work out. The region has not been happy with the way the coalition runs the government and Pro-Raila chants could be heard as the President talked to the people.

Medical services dilemma

Medical Services devolved!

The Medical sector in any nation is deemed as one of the most fundamental services that the Government ought to take care of and give first priority. As a basic need, each and every person is entitled to proper medication as well as quality treatment services.

With the coming of the New Constitution. The country took a different path and the first activities saw the medical activities devolved to the county levels. As a matter of fact, the Government could have messed up in setting its priorities on what to devolve or not but today, the move could have proved a success in some of the counties as well as relieve it of some of its duties.

However, the Medical sector has had to works under serious challenges since the devolving of the medical services. I take a look at some of the District hospitals that were referral centres but have now been reduced to deplorable medical centres due to poor management as well as low quality of services offered in there.

I took a visit to Homa-Bay Hospital in Homa-Bay County to seek medical attention. Thanks to the leadership of the able Governor H.E Cyprian Awiti.. the roads leading to the hospital are well tarmacked to allow for easy access to the medical facility.

At the gate I’m invited by security agents and the doctors are welcoming at the reception. The nurses and doctors attend to the many seated patients who are eagerly waiting and each is called in one by one. My turn come and I get in to get the medical attention. Though its kind of slow, I am sure of being served by the end of the day. Patients complain outside as the doctors walk away for lunch but sooner than late, they return and its work again.

I get attended to but something is a miss somewhere and I could guess this. There is no drugs in the hospital chemistry. As if that is not enough, at the Laboratory, the reagents are missing and even the machines are down. Surely, are services getting compromised?

At the hospital corridors, I meet doctors and medical practitioners walking hastily. A week later, I am back to the laboratory and the reagents aren’t there once again. I’m left to wonder what next!

Could it be that the hospital management is taking us for a ride? Or could it be that the reagents are not within the country? Or could it be that the hospital is not able to afford buying the reagents or repairing the machines? Or could it be there are no engineers in the county to work on the machine?

In every contest, there has to be a winner… he joy and jubilation that comes with winning is often great but one has to evaluate what kind of Victory they are celebrating. 

In 279 BC during the Pyrrhic War Greek King Pyrrhus of Epirus’, army suffered irreplaceable casualties in defeating the Romans at Heraclea in 280 BC and Asculum in 279 BC during the Pyrrhic War. The victory had such a devastating cost that it was tantamount to defeat.   "If we are victorious in one more battle with the Romans, we shall be utterly ruined." Pyrrhus was quoted to have said.

What am I driving at? Homa Bay County had scored and had been one of the well performing counties in the Country.  However, not so very good news is coming from the HCG of late there is a lot of infighting and serious allegations against many of the county officials. Many a Homa Bay resident are now complain of H. E. the governor  dishing out  plum positions to his cronies (as political) and majority of the officials holding influential offices are accused of conflict of interest and grand.

I’d rather someone accuse me of anything but not issue of integrity due to the negatively it can impact on ones reputation. Robert Renne and Joost Elffers see it as the cornerstone of power. He says thus “Reputation is the cornerstone of power.  Through reputation alone you can intimidate and win; once you slip, however, you are vulnerable, and will be attacked on all sides.  Make your reputation unassailable.”  The repute of HGC is wanting and thus it could make it vulnerable to attacks just as the ones we have been hearing about from within and without

Be as it may, I may conclude that the party is over and this Victory may make or break H.E. Dr. Syprian Awiti politically. Homa Bay County could as well make History as the first to be put under the Central Government. This may be a win for the retrogressive forces that are anti devolution and development of The Luo Nation. The governor should not let victory get into his head.

University of Nairobi decides.

This morning, students from the University of Nairobi campuses get to the ballot box to decide on who fits best to lead them through the year.

And in what may be termed as a turn of events in Campus elections, this year’s election has been termed as very impressive and magnificent. Just as witnessed in the 2013 General elections, contestant’s superiority in terms of resources and finances ‘played its course in the SONU election campaigns with contestants using very flashy vehicles and fuel guzzlers as well as other campaign materials.

It was indeed a great surprise to many Nairobi city residents and workers who in the past few days have been treated to a very rare happening during the campus elections. Major highways and skyscrapers, around the University of Nairobi main campus, Kabete campus, Chiromo campus and Parklands campus witnessed a very rare show as SONU contestants made their way into the various campuses to seek votes.

Just like the 2013 General elections, a number of students have declared interest for various positions. And in what is deemed as a tight race between contestants without a clear winner, Jim Akatch  will have to battle it out with ,Dan Koech and  Beena Mburu for the  Secretary General position while Babu who is deemed to win the Chairmanships’position, will still have to get opposition from  JN Kariuki, and Philbert Kongola .The Vice Chairperrson position on the other hand has once again attracted three contestants ; Irine Kendi , Ms B Chebet and Edith Mwirigi who will have to face off at the ballot box too.

And in what may be seen as a resemblance of the national election campaigns, contestants formed coalitions and wooed voters to their sides during their campaign period that ended yesterday.  The campaign mechanization and machinery used were similar to those of the general elections.

contestants and their coalition trans versed various campuses, holding rallies to woo voters.  The various election coalitions that were formed were that of Kariuki-Jebet Alliance that is also the ‘Jubilee Alliance’ look alike with the Red and Yellow colours as there theme colours. Chairperson top contestant, Babu, linked up with Irine Kendi while Philbert Kongola linked up with Edith Mwirigi to form their coalition.

But even as the election get underway, nothing is left to chance and Just like every National elections, the University electoral board has put strict measures in place to curb electoral irregularities. Speaking early this week when he met the contestants, Prof. M.A Jama, chairman of the SONU electoral Commission, stated that, “Violation of any rules and regulations and or rules and regulations governing the organization conduct and discipline of the student of University of Nairobi will lead to appropriate disciplinary action including automatic disqualification from the electoral process.”
